This Big 20" x 4.5" Melt-blown Polypropylene Sediment Filter (20 Pack) is often the first filter installed in a Whole House Water Filter circuit. It serves as the initial point of contact between the water supply and the home, functioning as a pre-filtration unit before the water reaches the reverse osmosis and activated carbon filters. The sediment filter catches unwanted particles, including sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine contaminants, as they attempt to enter the home's water system. These particles and pollutants can originate from water sources, old and dirty pipes, as well as from the treatment chemicals used to treat the water.

The Big 20" x 4.5" filters are made of fine-melted polypropylene that is blown and spun into a cylinder-like form. Removing these particles allows other filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filters, as well as household water appliances like boilers, refrigerators, and ice-makers, to perform better for longer periods.

The Big water filter has wider dimensions than standard water filters, allowing it to process more water in less time for the entire house. The sediment filter has tiny holes that allow water to pass through, while the unwanted particles are trapped. The filter sizes are measured in microns, with smaller micron measurements indicating smaller holes in the filter, enabling the capture of smaller particles. For water that is more visibly polluted and contains larger particles, a sediment filter with a larger size is recommended in the first stage of installation to prevent the clogging of the subsequent filters.
