A Sediment Water Filter removes physical debris and impurities from your water. The filter has tiny holes through which water can pass, but unwanted particles are trapped. As these particles come in different sizes, the filters are measured in microns - the smaller the micron, the smaller the holes, allowing the filter to capture smaller particles. For visibly polluted water containing larger particles, a larger sediment filter (such as 20 or 50 microns) is recommended in the first stage to prevent clogging of subsequent filters.

This sediment filter is often the first filter installed in a Reverse Osmosis system, acting as a net to catch unwanted particles like sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles. Made of fine melted polypropylene, polypropylene is resistant to chemical solvents, bases, and acids. Removing these particles allows downstream filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filters, to perform better and last longer.
